HLA genes play a vital role in organ and bone marrow transplantation. The main condition for transplantation is that the status of HLA genes, especially HLA class II genes, is the same  in the recipient and the donor.  

In 2020, HLA specialized laboratory of ITBRC is launched to determine the HLA indices of blood samples of brain death patients and candidates for organ transplantation in Imam Khomeini Hospital and also activate as a reference laboratory of the Ministry of Health and Medical Education. At this moment ITBRC has been able to operate as one of the most equipped HLA laboratories in the country based on its personals experience, facilities and up to date equipments.
